Some things you just don’t feel you can talk about or blog about. But if its an issue I have to deal with I know I will not be on my own and think Id like someone to blog about, so I will.
Since having my twins I have noticed an embarrassing problem that catches me out from time to time. How do you say this in a nice way……? If I run too fast, put in some effort I’m at risk of peeing myself (blushes a little) for me this IS / WAS a problem because I want to put effort in and I want to run fast.
I thought I was a one off lady runner with this wee issue until I began running with other mums who have experienced the same thing at one time or another (phew!!) and I also went in search of others out there. Unfortunately it is quite a common issue amongst mummy runners.
I did find some advice on how to decrease and stop the problem:
Kegel exercises, this is you pelvic floor, go for a wee and stop mid flow, the muscles you use to do this are your pelvic floor and you can pull them up to strengthen them
Reduce the diet drink intake (I did this and it helped) its not the amount of fluid but something in the diet drinks
Reducing caffeine intake could also help
You can use a tampon even if you are not on your period as this will help support the kneck of the bladder
This is just some advice and if you or anyone you know experiences this, your not on your own it can be dealt with so don’t let it stop your running
